What is Le Nid d'Hibou?
Le Nid d'Hibou (the Owl's Nest) is a self catering gîte, situated on the border of Calvados and Manche in Normandy. In an isolated position, surrounded by beautiful bocage countryside, it is the ideal place for a holiday, whether relaxing and enjoying the views across the valley, with a book and a bottle of wine, or taking to your cycle, exploring by foot or jumping in the car, there is something nearby for everyone. The gîte is a renovated farm worker's cottage, dating back to at least 1800 and is part of a traditional french farm complex.
What is the bocage?
The bocage a special agricultural area where small fields, enclosed by hedgerows, stand alongside small woods. The winding lanes are often sunken, with trees arching over to form green tunnels. We own 13 acres of bocage land and manage it in the traditional way, to maintain the hedgerows, protect the fields and encourage wildlife.
What do we offer?
A comfortable place to stay and explore, only an hour away from many of Normandy's top attractions. We offer a welcome basket on arrival and, if needed, we can provide a meal for your first night (must be booked beforehand, ask for details). The gîte is family friendly and we provide toys and equipment for babies, toddlers and children. Animal feeding time is fun and we have a beautiful green lane which links our fields. These are not always accessible; it depends on the time of year and the animals. We usually have sheep, pigs, horses, hens, cats and dogs (all friendly) around.
Sue is a qualified teacher and can offer half-day activities for the children (nature, art, french, cooking) allowing parents to have a few minutes to themselves (book before arrival to ensure availability). Sue is also TEFL qualified and can offer English lessons to guests.
